SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (AP) _ The body of a soldier killed in Iraq will be returned to Fort Huachuca Friday, U.S. Army officials announced Wednesday. Spc. Collin Schockmel, 19, died Jan. 16 of wounds he received in Ramadi when his unit was attacked by insurgents using grenades. Schockmel was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo. A public memorial service has been set for Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the main post chapel at Fort Huachuca, with a funeral service to follow at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista. Schockmel moved to Sierra Vista in 1996 with his family, but went to live with his grandmother in Richmond, Texas after his junior year in high school, said his mother, Kristin Shinn. He wrestled in high school there and worked as a lifeguard before earning a GED certificate and enlisting in the Army. Shinn lives in Sierra Vista.
